Ithought I knew what 365 horsepower felt like.

Fuck, I thought I knew what 500 horsepower felt like in a Ferrari.

But this.... This thing it asks for irresponsible behavior, it’s bored at 50km/h. It’s bored and annoyed that there’s a long way before it finishes it’s break in period and that its effective rev limit is going to be 4000.

I thought you people were exaggerating about young drivers having fast cars is a bad idea, but you’re right.

I feel that someone as dumb as I am shouldn’t be manning such a powerful vehicle on a daily basis. I’m almost feeling like telling on myself; Asking my father he should keep it and I should keep his jeep. One needs to be responsible in this car and I either need to suddenly become so or give it away.

Its too much man!

Today’s cars are pretty docile when driven with some sensibility. Couple that with the automatic and all you really have to do is not push the car past your limits and you’ll be fine. Don’t jackass around with cars, property, or curbs nearby and you’ll probably be fine.

The car that really tested my limits was my 03 cobra. 500hp as it sat, gobs of torque, and an unforgiving clutch made for a sink or swim experience when I decided to push it hard.

Well, if you were really all that dumb you’d be like “I can handle this, just hold my beer! Sqeeeeeal! Crash!” But yeah, slow car fast > fast car slooooow.

Well on the upside, there’s strong scientific evidence for a correlation between self restraint and success in life, so if you survive the next couple of months you’ll be set for life!

yeah, the WRX is pretty dead below 2000, but then it’s like somebody bites it in the a$$ and it takes off quicker than you are anticipating, “oh shoot, time to shift already.”

Every car I drove as a teenager and young adult saw redline and was pushed to its 100% max, so yeah can confirm. I guess that’s why I drove a worn out 1975 Datsun B210 in college. It’s called a Datsun Sunny in the rest of the world. It had a 75 hp 1.5L engine!

I’d be more than happy to take a stab at the whole restraint thing if it seems like it’s going to be a bit much! Awesome car man Black is good to the stinger, blue or red would be my choices though.

The issue isn’t so much wrapping it around a tree, or something stupid like that. It’s speeding, that’s the real trick with higher hp cars. You can do stupid in any car with any amount of power, but in a powerful car, it’s all too easy to speed.

I daily an 09 S8 now, and it has so much potential power on tap that a second too long on the accelerator can be the difference between a warning, a ticket, or a big ticket. Normal driving this thing will be happy to lope along under 3k rpm. But when it gets over 4-5k rpm, holy hell, cause 7k is just a tick away and then you better be careful. Way too easy to get into trouble, speed wise. You just need to practice restraint and sign up for some autoX or track days to get the speed out of your system, and you’ll be alright. 365hp is like a gateway drug into performance car territory. Just keep the antics to a proper venue, and you’ll be fine. And of course, now you’re ruined for anything less, performance wise. It truely becomes a sickness, but a good one to have. Enjoy.

Well, thankfully I’m not the only asshole with a fast car.

Getting a ticket is rather hard unless you’re using the elevated ring road.

Either way, sport mode is definitely out of bounds for me, the car isn’t comfortable at any pedestrian speed.

Comfort mode seems to be where it feels docile.

How has your D3 S8 treated you? I’ve seen mention on forums that they can be a maintenance nightmare, but without any specific details or anything. That’s a car is seriously like to know more about.

So far so good. I bought mine with 50k miles from Florida, and it must’ve sat for long periods because it had a handful of oil leaks. I just did the intake valve cleaning and it really woke it up. That was a chore for sure, but I coupled replacment of a couple oil seals under the intake and the valve cover gaskets as well at the same time. I did a spark plug change and oil and air filters while everything was apart. Fresh oil was a must after the carbon cleaning. I have removed and replaced about 4 liters of the trans fluid, and I’ll do a couple more of those drain and refills from the oil drain plug in the near future to try and get more fluid swapped out without dropping the pan. No such thing as lifetime fluid in my book, so just being preventative. Oil changes are a bit pricey due to using 12L of oil each time, but I buy a couple changes worth on ECS tuning when they run a sale. So it’s a little under $100 each change, with the filter. Not cheap, but cheap insurance. Oil changes aren’t too tough, neither was the trans fluid change. But it helps to have hoist access, as the car should be level for each change. I already had the rosstech VCDS as well and that’s a must for one of these to read codes and a good investment if you are a VAG owner.

Definitely a fun car, but I’m always prepared to have to shell out a few bucks for a big repair, part. The air springs are over a grand a piece, so hopefully those hang on for a while. The entire front end kit for the control arms and all that can be had for less than $1000, but the OEM parts are pricey. Aftermarkets brands can be a big savings, but not always worth it to save a few bucks.

If you’ve got a lot of miles to cover, this car is stellar. Heck, even city driving is fun. It drives a lot smaller than it is, but at the limit, you feel the heft of the car. Next on my list is exhaust mods. The milltek exhaust is over $2000 or something stupid like that, but I’ve heard videos of muffler deletes that sound excellent, so I’ll probably experiment with removing parts till I get the sound I want.

My S8 is the same way. Sport mode really dials it to 11, and it’s doesnt play too nice on city streets like that either. Comfort mode for me too.

I’m a proponent of muffler deletes and might even try that on my car.

Sounds like a good experience overall. I’ve heard the V10 is relatively bullet proof from the Lamborghini guys and the 6 speed is a ZF box so it should be stout. That’s why I was surprised to hear that it was a pain to own (admittedly from people who haven’t owned one). Not surprised to hear about the potential cost of the air suspension given what some Cayenne owners have experienced. Hopefully yours stays in tact, though I wonder if anyone makes a coil-over conversion.

I actually agree with this take.

Young drivers should drive small, underpowered cars for a good while. The rewards later in life when one steps up to a higher powered car are great.

Plus, I’ve lost a few too many people growing up to cars too fast to handle without the years of experience.

I understand exactly what you mean, it takes a lot of restraint. Specially because in sport plus mode the car wants to pull its ass out.

I’ve been driving for ten years various types of vehicles on and off road and I still feel like this is a bit too much. Specially because the other fast cars I’ve driven feel fast, this one doesn’t feel fast even when going 30km/h above the speed your ass-dyno tells you you’re doing.

I don’t see a coil mover kit for it yet, but more of them are hitting 3rd and 4th owners that will be looking for cheaper options, so they may become available.

My only real concern is preserving the timing chain guides, so I’m changing oil every 5k miles. Again having hoist access is a great help and if I need to replace the timing chain, I can tackle it myself, but hoping that’s not an issue for a long long time. Otherwise, just keeping fluids clean and driving it.

And if I pull that mufflers and it sounds like crap, I can always put them back on. I’ll keep it simple for now and remove them in a way that’s easy to replace if needed. Still a bit unnerving to take a sawzall to a perfectly good exhaust.
